Pennant: Pompey can reignite my career

Jermaine Pennant believes Pompey can help reignite his career.

The winger, who has joined the Blues on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season, is looking forward to playing regular football again after enduring a frustrating time at Anfield.

The former Arsenal ace was out of favour under Rafa Benitez and was limited to just a handful of appearances for the Reds.

But after being tempted to Pompey by his former Gunners team-mate Tony Adams, Pennant is eager to get back on top of his game and deliver the goods for his new club.

What do you think? Will Jermaine Pennant be at Pompey longer than the end of the season? Will the Blues be able to afford him once his contract has run down at the end of the season with Liverpool?

  1. pennant 29 …. /????

  2. jermaine Pennant is the type of player that the fans will love he’s great on the ball, quick, and can cross a ball very well he’s also scored some great goals aswell and a partnership with johnson down the right is mouthwatering to say the lleast with the belhadj and traore down one side and johnson and pennant down the other it sounds to good to be true but guess what it is true. thats how far we have come if you thought the left side reaked havoc try the right side. PLAY UP POMPEY.

  3. Completely agree with darren! Im properly looking forward to the Swansea game………Johnson and Pennant can both whip in a sick ball, all i’m saying is Crouchie better have his heading game on!
Also, theres some pretty decent compilation vids of Pennants best on youtube…..have a butchers……..IMPRESSIVE

  4. Lets make Jermaine feel welcome, he could be our answer on the right. I’m sure if things go well he will want to stay. We could bring out the best in him.

  5. Another waste of money and an afternoon.
What is the point in finally bringing in a right-winger to then play him in central midfield, whilst a striker plays on the right wing?
Tactics completely wrong, poor passing, no urgency or creativity especially in the first half.
Played better in the second half with players in their correct positions but too far behind by then.
We were set up and played like we were away at Man U rather than home to a Championship club.
Nine desperate days left of the transfer window to save our season. Yet we didn’t even attempt to sign Jimmy Bullard who ticks every single box you could ever want ticking. If a hard-working, creative, goal-scoring, free-kick taking central midfielder like Bullard is not the player Adams wants, then who on earth does Adams want?

  6. When you see comments like ‘its like having a new signing ‘ when Richard Hughes is back in training you know youve got problems! Also Pennants statement that he doesnt see Adams as ‘the Gaffer’ just someone who messes about in training is also worrying.
But above all when you sign a right winger and play him behind the striker and put the striker on the right wing then you realise its time to give up

  7. yep he will be a wing wizard in the championship

  8. yep he will get some fitness back , then go to fulham or hull at the end of the season, because they know how to sign players and dont stiff around once one becomes available!!

  9. I’m sure Adams would have signed Bullard if he could have but even after the sales of Defoe and Diarra it looks like we haven’t even £5m in the transfer pot. It’s probably no more than £3m which will not buy the quality we need in midfield.
    Doesn’t look good.

  10. people on here are saying about bullard cos i couldn’t belive we didn’t go in for him, he is everything we need so you have to come to the conclusion that we couldn’t afford him. i think we may lose alot of our first team in the summer even if we stay up

  11. HARRY you have hit the nail on the head.
The club is broke and up for sale. Sacha needs to pay off some debts to give himself a chance of attracting a buyer.
Apart from GON, every player we have been looking at this month has been loan deals, including the latest two to be linked, Ravioli and Emerson.
Like it or not we are stuck with TA because, unlike Curbs or Big Sam, Tony is grateful for any chance in management and wont walk away.

  12. Oh Dear! Tony is disappointed…
Perhaps he’ll admit that he simply isn’t up to the task of management in the Premiership. I agree with the comments about Bullard – we desperately need a midfield general/playmaker – in fact I think we need three midfield players – because none of the ones we have are Premiership class.

  13. AT LEAST TONY ADAMS IS SHOWING PASSION,MERSON IS PAYED TO SAY THINGS THAT WILL GET A REACTION.WHY SHOULD HE FEAR FOR HIM,THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO REALLY SUFFER ARE THE FANS AS USUAL.I CANT THINK OF ONE MANAGER WHO AFTER BEING SACKED HAS NOT HAD A NICE PAY OFF ,I HOPE TONY IS A GREAT SUCCESS.I HAVE SUPPORTED POMPEY SINCE 1953/4 SEASON AND LIKE MANY OTHER FANS HAVE SHED A BUCKET LOAD OF TEARS MOSTLY FROM THE INEPT OWNING AND RUNNING OF THIS GREAT CLUB.THE PRESENT OWNER I THINK WANTS THE BEST FOR POMPEY I HOPE ITS THE SAME AS THE FANS. BRING BACK THE RED SOCKS IMMEDIATLY!!!!!!!
